Here's some advice to American International, DBA American Fragrances, out of Staten Island, New York. The biggest turnoffs to a customer--the ones guaranteed to make a customer furious (and tell all their friends in the process)--are Arrogance, Attitude, and Excuses, qualities every one in your company has in abundance. When a customer contacts you out of frustration because an important order was never delivered, the very worst thing you can do is cover your tracks with lies.
When you screw up and don't ship a package when you say you're going to (which delays receipt of a birthday gift), don't lie and say the post office held it in their terminal, or that my credit card didn't go through right away, or after "looking into it," you've now shipped out a new package with a new tracking number when, in fact, all you've done is finally ship the same package that sat in your warehouse for a week (I know this because the post office does not "repeat" the same tracking number twice!). When your policy is to charge shipping, but your page on Amazon says "free shipping," don't blame me for being confused when I have to pay for delivery. When my package finally arrives, with additional postage due because your shipping department doesn't know the difference in rates between a 1 and 3-pound Priority package, don't tell me I don't have my facts right. And, by the way, the small gift you said you'd send "for my troubles" somehow never arrived.
In my 20+ years in the customer service industry, a customer can almost forgive anything as long as the company owns up to it and makes it right. Finally, when I'm told you'll reluctantly refund the excessive shipping charge if I agree to "go away," you've just added fuel to an already "incendiary" experience, and can now count on me spreading the word throughout the internet to as many potential customers of yours as possible.
